DIGITAL DOLPHINARIUMWorld First at Dolphin Discovery Centre
The Dolphin Discovery Centre has opened the Worlds only 360° Digital Dolphinarium. This walk in theatre has been designed to immerse you within the pristine waters of Koombana Bay and experience numerous aspects of the life of a dolphin unfolding all around you. It gives you a realistic underwater experience without even getting wet!
The digital images were designed by a local digital animation company called the Australian Centre for Digital Innovation (ACDI). The company have just moved into the region and have used this project as a showcase example of their ability to use animation technology to create a virtual dolphin viewing experience unparalleled anywhere else in the world.
The 6 minute film runs constantly throughout the day and offers visitors a unique dolphin experience anytime of the year, summer or winter. It focuses on three major events in the life of our dolphins which include catching dinner, having a baby and avoiding shark attacks. Each of the sequences features local dolphin personalities so look for Nick and Shredder. The sounds made by the dolphins were actually recorded here in Koombana Bay by researchers from Denmark!,
Overall feedback since the opening of the theatre has been outstanding, with many convinced they are watching real, high definition underwater footage. Some have even commented on the feeling of seasickness, a true testament on the reality of the image! Our original intention was to create a “wow” factor and the most common word you hear when people enter the new attraction is “wow”.
