The Dolphin Discovery Centre prepared a Redevelopment Plan in 2009 to ensure sustainability into the future and reinforce the centres position as the iconic tourism attraction in the region. Stage 1 of this plan which focused on getting as much as we could out of our existing building was completed in early 2011 with the support of the State Government under the “Royalties for Regions” program.
We are currently undertaking the planning required for Stage Two which will see a significantly expanded infrastructure including Conference Rooms, Education Centre, Café /restaurant that will be fully accessible to the public, improved visitor facilities and four times the current interpretive space.
Once the planning is finalised we will be seeking government support to fund the infrastructure. If our requests are supported we hope to have the new facilities completed by summer of 2014.
The plan will see the Dolphin Centre Building become a key entry statement for the city and diversify our income streams so that we can deliver our conservation, research and education objectives. It will have major flow on economic benefits to the local and regional community through additional visitation, job creation and community profile outcomes.
We encourage our many supporters, volunteers and key decision makers to help us generate support for the plan.
